On the determination of acoustic emission wave propagation velocity in composite sandwich structures

This work focuses on the rapid determination of Acoustic Emission (AE) wave propagation velocity in composite laminate and sandwich structures using a closed-form formula. Firstly, classical model proposed literature is extended to determine acoustic any direction or structure; then corrective factor has been defined improve calculation accuracy; finally, parameter, called correlation ratio introduced describe relation between skin that panel. strategy validated by two types panels: one honeycomb with CFRP skins; other balsa GFRP skins. It demonstrated dominated property, namely elastic modulus skin, density constituents, core thickness. Moreover, only measuring direction, can be predicted accurately quickly. lays first foundations for establishment numerical experimental models necessary damage localization structures.
